Miriam Rodríguez Hernández

Cuban writer of children's literature. She has successfully worked in the genres of short story, poetry, and testimonial writing.

She was born in Pedro Betancourt, Matanzas. Graduate of technical studies in Museology from the Centro Nacional de Conservación, Restauración y Museología (Cencrem), in La Habana, in 1985.

She has worked in various positions and places beginning in 1962 as an accounting assistant, as a personnel assistant in 1964, at the PCC municipal office in Pedro Betancourt in 1968, PCC Regional and Literature Advisor in Jovellanos in 1976, at the Banco de Pedro Betancourt in 1980. That year she moved to Holguín, Moa, and remained there from 1981 to 1982 in Culture as head of the Technical Artistic department.

She returned to the municipality in 1983 and began working at the municipal Museum, later moved to commerce where she remained from 1989 to 1996, and finally moved to the Contingente Héroes de Playa Girón in Varadero, where she currently works.

She has been a member of the Municipal Literary Workshop since 1974. She cultivates the genres of short story and poetry for adults and children, standing out especially in the latter, and also works in testimonial writing.

She has had published a municipal pamphlet for children to sing, the children's poetry book Trino Ámbar. Matanzas: Editorial Matanzas, 2002. And a municipal pamphlet Poetry, 2001.
Her work has also been published in the weekly Yumurí, Revista Muchacha, and Revista ANAP. In the anthology Nuevos Narradores 1974. La Habana: Editorial Arte y Literatura, 1975, her short story My Friend Martha was published.
She represented the province of Matanzas in several literary encounters: Interprovincial Encounter with Pinar del Río 1976, Encuentro Debate Taller Literario Nacional in La Habana, Encuentro Debate Taller Literario Nacional in Manzanillo 1984, Encuentro Debate Taller Literario Nacional held in Caibarién 1997, Encuentro Debate Taller Literario Nacional in Matanzas 1998, Encuentro Debate Taller Literario Nacional in Sancti Spíritus, Encuentro Debate Taller Literario Nacional in Camagüey 2000.

She has been invited as a judge to the Encuentro Debate Taller Literario Municipal de Varadero 2003, Concurso Territorial Basilio Alfonso de Varadero 2002, Concurso Municipal Meñique in Varadero 2003.

Her work Trino Ámbar was selected to participate in the Feria del Libro de Guadalajara México of 2003.
