Michelle Aguirre

Born in Hialeah and a student at Florida International University (FIU), she was crowned Miss Florida on Saturday night at The Westin Diplomat hotel in Davie.

Aguirre, 19 years old, will now represent Florida in the Miss USA competition in the spring of 2013. Michelle came to participate after winning Miss Broward Fair USA.

On Sunday, Aguirre achieved the crown wearing the unconventional but striking red evening gown she wore, designed by Fernando Wong.

"I wanted something simple and sexy," Aguirre told WPLG-Channel 10, which broadcast the competition. "From now on, he is making all my dresses."

Aguirre, who studies Education at FIU, was among the 73 contestants who were evaluated in the categories of interview, swimwear, and evening gown.
