Mario Sorondo

Promoter between 1920 and 1940 of traveling theaters, which eased the theatrical crisis caused by the rise of cinema. Numerous artists debuted in his companies, some of them major figures of vernacular theater, such as Alberto Garrido hijo, Leopoldo Fernández, and Enrique Arredondo.

Founder and director of Teatro Alegre, a weekly publication that had two periods, 1911-18 and 1924.

Author of countless plays, premiered mainly at the Alhambra and Molino Rojo theaters, among which stood out Lydia en el convento (1910), La Chelito del solar (1911), El suceso de El Bosque (1911), El naufragio del Republique (1912), La comida de las panteras, and Cantos de Cuba (1929).

He published his memoirs under the title "Treinta años de teatro" (1943). He was interviewed in the documentary Cuentos del Alhambra (M.O. Gómez, 1962). He died in La Habana in the 1960s.
