Marco Antonio Rubio García

Marco Antonio Rubio García (born May 28, 1971, in Miami, Florida) is a Cuban-American politician and lawyer and a member of the Republican Party. He has served as U.S. Secretary of State since January 2025, the first Hispanic American to hold the post.

He is the son of Cuban immigrants Mario Rubio and Oriales García, who settled in the United States in 1956. He spent part of his childhood in Las Vegas, Nevada, before his family returned to Miami. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Florida in 1993 and a law degree (J.D.) from the University of Miami in 1996.

Rubio was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2000 and served as its speaker from 2006 to 2008. In 2010 he won a U.S. Senate seat for Florida, which he held from 2011 to 2025 after winning re-election in 2016 and 2022. He sought the Republican presidential nomination in 2016. The Senate confirmed him as Secretary of State in January 2025, at the start of President Donald Trump's second term.

He is married to Jeanette Dousdebes, and the couple has four children: Amanda, Daniella, Anthony and Dominick.
