Luis Alberto Orta Sánchez is a Cuban Greco-Roman wrestler and Olympic champion. Born on August 22, 1994, in Havana, he is widely considered one of the finest wrestlers of his generation in the Americas.\n\nOrta began wrestling at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks of Cuban sport. At the continental level, he claimed gold at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla and was crowned Pan American champion in both 2018 and 2019.\n\nAt the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (held in 2021), Orta Sánchez won the Olympic gold medal in the 60 kg Greco-Roman category, defeating Japan's Kenichiro Fumita 5-1 in the final. The victory made him one of Cuba's most celebrated sports heroes of the Games.\n\nAt the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, competing in the 67 kg category, he won the bronze medal, confirming his continued elite status in world wrestling. He was also named the world's best Greco-Roman wrestler in 2023 by United World Wrestling (UWW).\n\nIn May 2026, he was inducted into the UWW Americas Hall of Fame at a ceremony held in Coralville, Iowa, in recognition of his extraordinary career in Greco-Roman wrestling.
