Lázaro Reynaldo Rodríguez

Cuban painter based in Mexico since 1991, the year he arrived in this country invited to hold a three-person exhibition at a gallery called Qualy. It was the first time he exhibited his work in Mexico, and from then on his life began to happen between Mexico and Cuba, because from that year on he discovered very favorable situations in the world of creation, in the world of everyday life and in life itself, to consider staying for a long time in that country.

Mexico, a country with a millenary culture and tradition, in everything, in architecture, in painting, in environments; it is a land that has enjoyed an important cultural structure. So, the artist who arrives from elsewhere, the artist who has the opportunity to live and produce in Mexico, receives a very favorable, very positive influence in his work. Mexico City is a city that has so many things for the sensitivity of the artist, of Mexican culture, of Mexico City.

Thus he had the opportunity to perfect and enrich all the things he had learned and translates them into paintings, drawings, objects.

He achieves a healthy coexistence of what is traditionally or conventionally known as figurative painting and abstraction; that is, if you go from one painting to another you can discover a work that you can consider as totally abstract, although there is an element that you associate directly with some aspect of urban landscape. Furthermore, we find harmony within the paintings, especially in the characters that are shown in profile, either looking toward the upper edge on the left or right of the painting that connect perfectly with the planimetry of the geometric elements he uses in his work. Everyone looks upward, everyone is, so to speak, grazing in the universe permanently.

He uses the colors red, blue and white for a very patriotic feeling, for the colors of his country's flag.

He studied at the El Alba School of Plastic Arts in his hometown, Holguín, Cuba. He graduated in 1983 in painting and drawing at the intermediate level.

He has completed curatorial studies in a joint program of the University of Havana and the Higher Institute of Art. He has held exhibitions in Cuba, Mexico, Russia, Venezuela and Puerto Rico. He has participated in several Cuban Plastic Arts Salons in Mexico.
