Pepe Ordaz

Pepe Ordaz is an exponent of the musical movement called La Nueva Trova, which was recognized internationally through Pablo Milanés and Silvio Rodríguez. Founder and director for years of the group Guaicán, for years, musical director of Sara González's group.

He has played and recorded with Silvio, Pablo, Joan Manuel Serrat, Daniel Viglietti, Isabel and Ángel Parra, Noel Nicola, Santiago and Vicente Feliú, among others.

He began his musical studies at the Elementary School of Music "Guillermo Tomás" in Guanabacoa during the period 1968-1971, moving to the National School of Art in the years 1972-1973. Later, during 1975, as a founding member of the prominent musical group Guaicán, he joined the then nascent Cuban New Troubadour Movement, serving as president of this Movement in Guanabacoa during the period 1977-1979.

With the Guaicán Group, he tours more than 20 countries in Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

He worked as a Professor at the "Julio Antonio Mella" School of Cadres in 1983. From 1980 to 2000 he worked as Musical Director of the Guaicán Group, accompanying the prominent singer Sara González for 17 years.

He is considered by specialists and critics one of the best composers of Cuban troubadour songwriting. His songs are now part of today's Cuban musical memory.

Starting in March 2003, at age 44, he began his project as a solo troubadour, touring Argentina, Peru, and Mexico, as well as being a constant presence at concerts and artistic programs in the country. His versatility as a musician and performer make him an indispensable figure in any musical and troubadour event.

He has represented Cuba as a musician in various countries in the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

The song "Cantar cantar," immortalized by Argentines Juan Carlos Baglietto and Silvina Garré, is his composition. He has also composed songs performed by renowned singers, such as "Alex," which is performed by Liuba María Hevia.
