He began his studies with his mother, American soprano Elsa Le Matt, and continued them with Austrians Paul Csonka and Greta Menzel.
In 1954 he traveled to Italy in order to complete his training as a singer, and there he was a student of Fornazari, Cardone and Benintende. In Milan he performed at the Teatro Nuovo in the opera "La Bohème" by Giacomo Puccini.
In 1946 he had begun his artistic career as a singer in the choir of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Havana, directed by Paul Csonka.
He carried out, in 1958, a tour through Spain, in which he offered several concert seasons, his performances at the Teatro de la Zarzuela standing out, where he performed Marina by Juan Emilio Arrieta, in the company of tenor Alfredo Kraus.
Between 1960 and 1965, he was general director of the Opera Theater of Havana. That last year he traveled to Spain again, where he performed in Madrid and Barcelona (at the Liceo he performed Turandot by Puccini). In 1970 and until 1988, he lived in New York, United States, from where he made tours through different states of that country.
In 1973 he performed in Canada in the opera "Lucrezia Borgia" by Gaetano Donizetti, alongside Australian soprano Joan Sutherland.
