José Antonio Plana

Tony Plana

His father, Pepe, and his mother, Conchita, both Cuban, moved to Culver City, California, when Tony was a child.

Tony graduated from Loyola Marymount University and received acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, England.

In addition to his work in film and television, Plana is an actor and theater director. He has created and directed numerous Shakespeare productions for children.

He has also acted, directed, and written series, mini-series, and specials for television such as "Hill Street Blues", "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", "Resurrection Boulevard", "Commander in Chief", "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", "The West Wing", "24" and "Cagney & Lacey", among others.

On the big screen, Tony has participated in films such as "An Officer and a Gentleman", "Three Amigos", "Goal!" and "Lone Star". His voice is known to video game fans, playing Manny Calavera in the Lucasarts adventure game "Grim Fandango".

He also played Ignacio Suarez, the father of Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) in the popular series "Ugly Betty".

In addition to his acting work, Plana teaches acting at the University of California and at Rio Hondo College.

In his personal life, Tony has been married since 1988 to actress Ada Maris; they have two children together, Alejandro and Isabel.
