Jorge Rubén Cortada Soto

Rubén is a Cuban actor and model who has won over the public as a model and, since 2011, as an actor. In fact, in 2007, he was chosen by users of hola.com as the 'best male model' of the year. Among his most important work, he stands out for being the face of Roberto Verino, El Corte Inglés, Jean Paul Gaultier, Guess!, Julipet and Custo.

As an actor, his résumé includes his work in the television series 'Bandolera' (2011), 'El tiempo entre costuras' (2013) and 'El príncipe' (2014).

Raised in a humble family, he is the son of a hydraulic engineer and a microbiologist. Cortada has dedicated part of his life to sports. He was a federated tennis player until age 15 and also practiced boxing.

He studied under a scholarship system in Cuba. After completing his high school education at the Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences "Vladimir Ilich Lenin", in September 2003 he enrolled at the Higher Polytechnic Institute "José Antonio Echeverría" (CUJAE) in Havana, to pursue university studies in Automatic Engineering, but he abandoned his studies during his second year, after a work opportunity arose in Spain related to modeling. He was also a dancer in the booth "El 5º Pino" at various fairs and festivals in Spain.

He considers himself a novice apprentice in the world of photography.

Rubén has worked as a model for major brands such as Roberto Verino, Guess, Julipet and Custo Barcelona, among others, and has been the face of designer Jean-Paul Gaultier. In 2007, he was chosen as Male Model of the Year by readers of the Spanish magazine ¡Hola!.

In 2014, thanks to his versatile performance, Cortada is chosen as a speaker for events, to present the new Jaguar XE automobile in London.

Actor
His first experiences as an actor were two theater productions in Cuba, under the direction of Humberto Rodríguez. Subsequently, he trained in the art of drama under the mentorship of Argentine mentor Fernando Piernas.

In January 2011, he made his debut in Spain as an actor, in the Antena 3 series Bandolera, and in 2013 in the telenovela El tiempo entre costuras, going unnoticed in his roles.

In 2014, he joined the police drama series El Príncipe, obtaining a leading role playing Faruq Ben Barek, a conflictive drug trafficker and risk lover, a role in which he stands out and gains fame, in a three-season series (2014-2016) with top ratings in Spain.

Rubén Cortada's career then begins to take off undeniably and his role as Faruq Ben Barek in the Telecinco series El Príncipe makes him one of Spain's most popular actors. The Cuban brings to life a native Spanish Muslim from the Ceuta neighborhood of El Príncipe. A drug trafficker who enjoys danger and who has reminded many people of that Duke character that Miguel Ángel Silvestre played in Sin Tetas no hay Paraíso. Rubén Cortada came into the lives of all Spaniards as the conflictive drug trafficker Faruq Ben Barek in El príncipe and after that massive boom he had other roles in various series, although with less significance and success. Cortada participated in Olmos y Robles on Spanish Television or Lo que ocultaban sus ojos, where he was a main character alongside Blanca Suárez.

His great popularity due to his character in the previous police series led him to be chosen as co-star in the TVE series Olmos y Robles, and later for the "tv-movie" Lo que escondían sus ojos alongside Blanca Suárez. In 2017 he stars in the comic series Ella es tu padre, in the role of Tommy, member of a rock band. After the broadcast of the seventh chapter of the series on October 17, 2017, it would be withdrawn from the network's schedule until further notice due to low ratings.

Rubén "owns a cafeteria. When he is in Havana he spends most of the day there," a neighbor confessed. Obtaining a business is something very common among those who achieved fame outside Cuba, because in this way the entire family can work. Rubén maintains a relationship with Cuban model Susana Pino, with whom he has a daughter named Mía, born in 2013.
