Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella. Engineer in Electronics and Telecommunications. He was Minister of Communications of the Republic of Cuba from July 21, 2018 until April 20, 2021 when he was promoted to the position of Vice Prime Minister. Appointed on July 21, 2018 as a member of the Council of Ministers in the First Ordinary Period of Sessions of the IX Legislature of the National Assembly[1]. He is a Deputy to the National Assembly of People's Power for the municipality of Camagüey.
He was born in San Antonio de los Baños, Artemisa, Cuba.
In 1993 he graduated as an Engineer in Electronics from the Higher Polytechnic Institute "José Antonio Echeverría" in Havana.
He conducted doctoral studies in the specialty of Microelectronics at the University of Applied Sciences of Münster in Germany, obtaining in 1999 the title of Doctor in Technical Sciences.
He conducted postdoctoral research between 2000 and 2001 at the Westfälische Wilhelms University in Münster, Germany which was awarded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
He obtained in 2012 and 2009 the Diplomas in Public Administration and in National Defense and Security from the Higher School of State and Government Officials and from the National Defense College respectively.
Career
He was First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Communications, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Informatics and Communications and member of the Board of Directors of the Telecommunications Company of Cuba S. A. (ETECSA).
He was also a member of the National Court of the Doctorate in Electronics and Telecommunications of the National Commission of Scientific Degrees of the Ministry of Higher Education, Vice Rector, Dean and Director of Research at the University of Informatics Sciences, and Assistant Professor and Researcher at the Center for Research in Microelectronics of the Higher Polytechnic Institute José Antonio Echeverría.
He has coordinated technical working commissions in Cuba on topics such as digital radiocommunication, terrestrial digital television, wireless technologies, fiber optic systems and broadband development among others.
He chaired Cuba's delegation to the plenipotentiary conference of the International Telecommunication Union in 2014, in Busan, Korea, and was Head of the Cuban Delegation at the second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunisia, and coordinator of Cuba's work in that field between 2005 and 2007.
Minister of Communications
Appointed Minister of Communications of the Republic of Cuba on July 21, 2018, a position he held until April 20, 2021.
Vice Prime Minister
On April 20, 2021, at the proposal of the President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz Canel Bermúdez, the Council of State decided to promote him to the position of Vice Prime Minister[2].
