Jorge Hidalgo Pimentel is a multifaceted Cuban artist — painter, draftsman, xylographer, designer, poet and journalist — born in Santiago de Cuba and based for decades in Holguín. His work blends contemporary experimentation with the study of Mesoamerican and Caribbean indigenous cultures and Afro-Cuban religious-magical systems.
He founded the Romerías de Mayo festival and the Ibero-American Culture Festival, and established the Holguín chapter of Cuba's Union of Writers and Artists (Uneac). He has received the Order for National Culture, the Hacha de Holguín award, and the title of Master of Masters. In September 2026, marking his 85th birthday, Holguín's Provincial Center for Plastic Arts dedicated the solo exhibition «Palimpsestos, Orikis, Odunes, Mitomorfos» to him.
