Cala

Journalist, producer, and radio and television presenter, Cuban with Canadian nationality, and currently a resident of the United States. He is recognized internationally for his programs ¡Qué tarde tan padre!, La oreja, Calando fuerte, El mundo informa, and his globally known interview program, called Cala, broadcast by CNN en español.

He was born in Santiago de Cuba. He made his radio debut at only eight years old. He studied Arts and continued as a presenter, which earned him excellent training. His impeccable and cultured Spanish language stands out.

He studied Art History at the University of Oriente, and was a professor for four years: first two years as an ungraduated instructor, while still studying the fourth and fifth year of his Art History degree at the University of Oriente in Santiago de Cuba, and later, upon graduation, they decided he would stay two more years as an associate adjunct professor, also for Art History. He taught classes there for two years to first and second year students, which shows he always enjoyed teaching, because in teaching one constantly learns.

After a brilliant career in Cuban media, both in radio and television, where De cinco a siete on Taíno radio and the game show Quién sabe stood out. He worked successfully in Cuban radio and TV, where he was a recognized figure, but he wanted to travel the world and left everything to start an adventure.

This strong desire led him to travel to Toronto, Canada in 1998, where he studied journalism in 2001, graduating in 2003, and then working as a correspondent for the renowned international news network CNN. On its Spanish signal, he initially made substitutions for some journalists during Easter and Christmas periods, mainly.

From 1998 he was the host of Calando a..., a cycle of biographical reports on Telelatino Network (TLN), Fiesta Olé, Caliente, and Viva auto, among other successful television programs.

In Canada he also continued his university studies, focusing on journalism, in addition to forming a production company that bears his name.

Cala decides to settle in the city of Miami where he participates as guest host of Despierta América, the popular morning show on Univision, and went on to work as a reporter for CNN en español. During this time he reported on the execution of Saddam Hussein and Hurricane Frances, among other news stories, quickly gaining fame and recognition. Shortly after, he surprised his audience by achieving an authentic turning point in his career by launching the programs ¡Qué tarde tan padre!, La oreja, and Calando fuerte. Also, from November 2007 he was the host of the morning radio program Ismael Cala y la jungla de la mañana on Mega 949.

He rose to the production level with the launch of the program El mundo informa, and having already established himself as a recognized figure in his own right, he managed to launch his latest and so far most successful interview program, Cala, with him as its presenter on CNN Miami.

From this program he has managed to interview numerous personalities from politics, entertainment, sports, the arts, journalism, and even business, among whom are Ricardo Arjona, Olga Tañón, Mirtha Legrand, Susana Giménez, Sebastián Schneider Maruri, Jorge Lanata, Víctor Hugo Morales, Verónica Castro, Leopoldo López, Henrique Capriles, Rigoberta Menchú, Manuel Baldizón, Maickel Melamed, Jerry Garcia, Franco de Vita, Eduardo Montes-Bradley, Alberto Plaza, Father Alberto Cutié, Don Francisco, Abdalá Bucaram, Carolina Herrera, Boris Izaguirre, Lino Oviedo, Fernando Carrillo, Alicia Machado, María Conchita Alonso, Erika de La Vega, Carolina Herrera, Scarlet Ortiz, Maite Delgado, Farruko, Daddy Yankee, Tito el bambino, Radamel Falcao, Carlos Vela, among others.
