Hugo Rius Blein

Professor Iraida Calzadilla, who declares herself his eternal student, thinks he is a cultured man, phlegmatic, with fine irony and far-reaching ability in speech and conceptualization. When I comment to him about this opinion, he answers: "I don't know, I always start from knowing that I don't know everything, that sometimes I know nothing; on that basis, at least, I aspire to be cultured. As for being phlegmatic, yes, at times I give that appearance, I try to remain self-controlled, but I confess that I don't always manage it.

"The capacity for analysis is an exercise that I have tried to cultivate over time, because I think that in life it is not enough to observe events, but to try to interpret them without settling for what appears on the surface. Everything requires reasoning: conducting an interview, writing a news item or any journalistic genre. I cannot imagine a journalist without developing that aptitude."
