Grettel Morejón Grueiro

Grettel Morejón is a principal dancer with the National Ballet of Cuba.

Since childhood she loved listening to music and moving. She began studying ballet at the age of 10, after a former dancer from the National Ballet of Cuba inspired her on the street with the idea of becoming a dancer, as he saw in her the physique of an artist.

She didn't have much time to prepare, nor natural conditions, but she had the discipline to demand more of herself in the few hours a week that he saw her. Her grandmother and mother were responsible for instilling in her a sense of responsibility toward work in order to achieve a purpose. What she knew without any doubt was that she wanted to dance.

She began her studies in 1998 at the Provincial School "Alejo Carpentier" in Havana, with teacher Sara Acevedo and continued them at the National Ballet School, under the guidance of Adria Velázquez and Fernando Alonso, among other distinguished teachers.

During her school years she received important awards including: Third place (2002) and First place (2004 and 2006) in the Competitions of the International Encounters of Academy for Ballet Teaching, held in Havana. In 2006 she participated in the International Dance Encounter held in the Dominican Republic.

In 2007 she joined the cast of the National Ballet of Cuba, under the artistic-technical direction of Alicia Alonso, with which she has performed in countries in the Americas, Europe, and Africa.

She was a guest artist at the Women in Dance Festival, held in Quito and Cuenca, Ecuador in 2007. In 2009 she was promoted to the rank of First Soloist.

Grettel Morejón has been a guest artist with the National Ballet of Peru in several of its seasons, as well as with the Sofía Festival Ballet in Sofia, Bulgaria, and Catania, Italy. With Ballet Magdeburgo she premiered in 2019 the productions of Dracula and Raymonda, in a version by choreographer and company director Galguera, who invited her to take on the lead roles in both.

Additionally, she has participated in festivals and galas in the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador, and Chile and performed with the BNC in Costa Rica, Egypt, Spain, Canada, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Italy, Mexico, the United States, and China, among other countries.

Her repertoire includes soloist roles from the romantic-classical tradition and contemporary works by Cuban and foreign choreographers. For her technical-artistic performance, in 2013, she was promoted to Principal Dancer.
