The principal ballerina of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba Grettel Morejón starred last Sunday in a performance of the classic Paquita as a guest of the Ballet Magdeburgo and under the direction of choreographer Gonzalo Galguera, in that German city, capital of the federal region of Saxony-Anhalt.

Paquita is considered one of the great classics based on a successful conception mounted in Russia, in the nineteenth century, by French master Marius Petipa, author of other very popular works such as Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty.

This conception inspired over the years a series of versions, among them this one by Cuban Galguera, created especially for the Ballet Magdeburgo which he has directed since 2006 and with which several of his creations received awards in Europe.

The city of Magdeburgo has one of the oldest and most prestigious classical ballet companies in Germany. There, the Magdeburgo Theater hosts until January 2022 the current season of Paquita, which has Russian master Olga Ilieva as assembly assistant.

Morejón performs alongside Bulgarian-born dancer Mihael Belilov. Furthermore, she will share performances of The Nutcracker with the company itself.

Grettel Morejón has been a guest artist with the Ballet Nacional del Perú in several of its seasons, as well as with the Sofía Festival Ballet in Sofía, Bulgaria, and Catania, Italy.

With the Ballet Magdeburgo she premiered in 2019 the productions of Dracula and Raymonda, in Galguera's version, who invited her to assume the leading roles in both.

Furthermore, she has participated in festivals and galas in Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador and Chile and performed with the BNC in Costa Rica, Egypt, Spain, Canada, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, United Kingdom, France, Australia, Italy, Mexico, United States and China, among other countries.
