His performance contributed to the victory for his team, which was crowned absolute champion on June 18, 2013, defeating Matanzas.

He made his debut in the XLV National Baseball Series 2005-2006. Among the best moments in Freddy Asiel's career is when he wins three games against Santiago de Cuba in the 2009 playoffs.

Chosen by the Circle of Sports Journalists together with the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation as the best male Collective Sport athlete of the year 2013 in Cuba.

He led his team to win the championship after 18 years of waiting. In the final, the Las Villas team defeated Matanzas four victories to one.

To top it off, at the beginning of the campaign (2013-2014), Álvarez pitched a no-hitter no-run game (1-0 against Sancti Spíritus) with which he demonstrated his excellent form in 2013.
