Paco Alfonso

At a young age, he debuted as a zarzuela singer in a professional company. He later became part of various Cuban and foreign dramatic ensembles. A distinguished actor, director, and theatrical author.

In 1929, Alma Guajira premiered at the Payret theater in the capital, in this film based on the homonymous novel by Marcelo Salinas, Paco Alfonso acts alongside Blanquita Bárcenas, Lolita Berrio, and Eddy López, among others.
He was a co-founder of Teatro Cubano de Selección in 1930. In 1932 he appears in the first Cuban sound feature film: La serpiente roja.

He was director of the Teatro Popular from 1943 to 1945 (considered the first Cuban effort to bring dramatic art to the lower classes and working masses) and of its official organ, the magazine Artes, in 1944. He won a prize for his dramatic work Reivindicación in the "4 de septiembre" Contest in 1936. In 1947 he obtained a special mention in the "Joshua Logan" contest for his work Yari-yari, mamá Olúa.

Founder of the Asociación de Artistas Teatrales de Cuba and the Federación Nacional de Espectáculos de Cuba, of which he was also secretary general. In 1956 he created the theatrical venue El Sótano.

In 1950 he won the National Theater prize for Cañaveral and the Prometeo prize for Yerba hedionda in 1951. Eight years later he appears in 2 films: The remake of Manuel García, el rey de los campos de Cuba and Un desalojo campesino, directed by José Tabío.

He worked in the television series En silencio ha tenido que ser. He conducted activities in national radio for a long time and participated in several films. Many of his premiered works have not been published, such as Sabanimar and Ya no me dueles, luna.
