Flavio Garciandía de Oraá was born in Caibarién, Villa Clara, in 1954. He is a central figure in contemporary Cuban art and of the generation linked to the Volumen Uno exhibition (1981). His practice spans painting, installation and conceptual appropriation. He lived in Monterrey from the mid-1990s to 2005 and later settled in Mexico City.
