Enrique Oduardo Carvajal

Glory of Cuban sports. Retired athlete who was a member of the Baseball teams of Las Villas and Azucareros and Arroceros. He made his debut in the VI National Baseball Series, 1966-1967 as an outfielder. He remained in these endeavors for 11 years with very good results. He represented Cuba in several international events.

He debuted in the VI National Baseball Series with the Las Villas team. Subsequently he played for Azucareros and finally for Arroceros. He wore number 14 on his back and was considered a strong batter. He was the cleanup hitter on teams that featured stellar players such as Owen Blandino and Antonio Muñoz to name a few (occupying that position twice on the Cuba Team that won the World Championship in Dominican Republic in 1969.

National Series
He began in them in the VI National Baseball Series, 1966-1967 as an outfielder for the Las Villas team, later played for Azucareros and finally for Arroceros until the VI National Baseball Series, 1976-1977, more than a decade. During that period he was a member of the winning team, one of the four times he finished as champion. He also participated in the 10 Million Series, in which he hit 12 home runs.

Notable Results
In 2,640 times at bat, he scored 272 runs and connected for 631 hits, 72 doubles, 13 triples, 55 home runs, with 358 RBIs, a .239 average and .339 slugging percentage, in times of high quality pitching and with wooden bats, a less lively ball and other general conditions. He recalls as moments of greatest joy in his sporting life when he managed to hit two home runs in a doubleheader against Industriales, which has undoubtedly always been one of the Cuban teams to beat, and another of his great memories, among many, is having helped achieve victory, three runs to two, for a team for which Commander in Chief Fidel Castro pitched, against the Boyeros Psychiatric Hospital team, where he as the third batter, achieved in the ninth inning, on a single, the decisive hit.

Participation in National and International Events
In his time there did not exist, as there are today, various international competitions. It was very difficult to make the national team. Nevertheless, he participated in several events such as:

Youth Baseball Tournament in Canada, 1964.
World Baseball Series, Dominican Republic, 1969.
VI World University Games in Turin, Italy, 1970.

Retirement from Active Sport
After his retirement from active sport at the end of the 1970s he has dedicated himself to different work such as: Physical Education teacher, in high school; subdirector and director of the Humberto Jordán Gallo Sports Complex, a very active sports activist (including street programs) and baseball coach. Since 2011 he has been coach of a group of children at Humberto Jordán Gallo Stadium in the municipality of Caibarién in Villa Clara. He worked as a collaborator in Mexico, from 2004 to 2008, also with children.

After his retirement from active sport he graduated as a Bachelor of Physical Culture in 1985.
