Bárbaro Garbey Garbey

Cuban baseball player, outfielder. He played 13 National Series. He developed as a baseball player under the direction and advice of experienced Cuban trainers who made him a good athlete.

He was born in Santiago de Cuba. From a young age he was interested in sports. He is a player for the capital's teams in the outfield and third base, although he is from Santiago de Cuba. He comes from a family of athletes in which boxer Rolando Garbey stands out.

Right-handed batter with technique and power who debuted in the XII National Baseball Series in 1973. He played in five national series and three Selective Series until 1978. He played in the Major Leagues and in other categories of professional baseball in the United States and Mexico.

He was batting champion in the XV National Baseball Series in 1976.

He travels to the United States by raft in 1980 and in 1984 debuts with the Detroit Tigers, where he bats 94 hits, 17 of them doubles, 5 home runs, 52 RBIs with a .287 batting average and also participates in the World Series that year.

In 1988 he joins the Texas Rangers, later to the Minor Leagues, within the Cubs affiliate, working as a batting coach with the D-Cubs. At one point he was suspended for attacking a fan after a 10-inning game against Louisville.

Currently he is a coach with the Peoria Chiefs.

In 2011 and 2012 he works as a batting coach for the Águilas del Zulia, but due to the poor performance of this team he resigned from his position on Thursday, January 12, 2012.
