David Rendón Malagamba

Died: May 1, 1980

Cuban pianist who was also a Choir Director and repertoire specialist for prominent figures in Cuban culture.

He was born in La Habana. Pianist and choir director.

He began his artistic career as a pianist for the Corte Suprema del Arte, an amateur program broadcast by CMQ radio station in Cuban radio during the 1940s; he later moved with the same function to the radio station RHC Cadena Azul, owned by Amado Trinidad Velasco, where he was also an advisor for musical programs.

He directed the orchestra of the Teatro Martí, and was a professor at the Coral del Pueblo; between 1960 and 1963 he directed the choir of the Instituto Cubano de Radio (now ICRT) and also participated in the lyrical shows of CMQ television.

In 1962, when the Teatro Lírico Nacional was founded, he joined its artistic cast as an accompanying pianist. He was repertoire specialist for Rosita Fornés, Gladys Puig, Ramón Calzadilla, Sara Escarpenter, and Alba Marina.

He was the accompanying pianist for the Dúo de Clara y Mario, among others.
