David Giralt Agramonte

Cuban athlete specialist in long jump, his best jump was 8.22 meters achieved in Montreal in August 1979, at only 20 years old. He was the first Cuban to surpass the 8-meter barrier in long jump.

Native of the municipality of San Luis in Santiago, Giralt Agramonte stood out from an early age and set several school, youth, and senior records, in addition to winning gold medals at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Medellín 1978 and silver at the Pan American Games in San Juan 1979.

Participant in the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games and won bronze at the World Cup in Montreal in 1979, he stood out for his love of sports, especially athletics.

He trained two other outstanding competitors: triple jumper Arnie David and Suslaydis, representative of the movement for people with disabilities, a multi-medalist in long jump, triple jump, and 100-meter dash in national and international competitions.

Father of jumper Arnie David Giralt, he died in Havana due to complications from diabetes mellitus.
