He began his studies at the Provincial School of Art of Santiago de Cuba, which he completed at the Professional School of Art of Camagüey. Among his principal teachers are Fernando Alonso, Vicentina de la Torre, Josefina Méndez, Laura Alonso and Víctor Ullate.

Upon completing his studies in 1985, he became part of the Ballet de Camagüey, with which he performed on stages in Cuba and in numerous countries in Europe, Asia and America.

When he arrived at Ballet Nacional de Cuba in 2001 he was already an accomplished dancer; however, he describes his first days with Alicia as unforgettable and assures that "to feel her like that, up close, giving everything she knows, was like living a dream".

As a principal dancer, he has been a guest artist with the Compañía Nacional de Bellas Artes and Ballet de Monterrey in Mexico, as well as Ballet Víctor Ullate in the Community of Madrid in Spain.

He has been awarded in several dance competitions and festivals inside and outside Cuba, such as the International Ballet Competitions of Varna, Bulgaria (1988) and Moscow, Russia (1989); the International Ballet Festival of La Habana and the Latin American Dance Festival of Camagüey; Cuban Culture Week in Canada; the Alfonso Reyes Festival and the Sinaloa Festival, both in Mexico. Since 2001 he joined as principal dancer with Ballet Nacional de Cuba, under the general direction of Alicia Alonso.

His repertoire includes principal and soloist roles from the great romantic-classical tradition and contemporary ballet, created by outstanding Cuban and foreign choreographers.

At the 2010 Havana Ballet Festival he was President of the choreography jury.
