Aurelio Baldor was a peaceful lawyer and mathematician who would shut himself away for long days in his room, armed only with pencil and paper, to write a text that since 1941 has captivated millions of students throughout Latin America.
Mathematician, professor, writer and Cuban lawyer, author of the book Álgebra de Baldor, published in 1941 and reprinted numerous times. Other books of his are known, such as Aritmética de Baldor, Geometría plana y del espacio and Trigonometría de Baldor.
His work Álgebra de Baldor was a great success in all Spanish-speaking countries. Its author sold the rights to this book to the publishing house Publicaciones Cultural, of Mexico. Many Latin Americans of different generations have used at least one of Baldor's famous mathematics books.
Youngest son of jose Baldor and Fátima Párraga, he founded in Cuba, in the decade of the 40s, the Colegio Baldor. The school, of which he was also director, was located in the residential area of El Vedado, on 23rd street and fourth; it had 3,500 students and 32 buses.
Following the Cuban Revolution of 1959, the Colegio Baldor was nationalized. When Camilo died, in 1960, Baldor decided to abandon the country with his family, as he considered him his protector: on July 19, 1960 he left for Mexico; he then went to the United States, first to New Orleans and then to New York and lived in Queens. Later, he found work as a professor at Saint Peter's University, in Jersey City, New Jersey, the city where he moved.
He also held the position of head of the Mathematics department at Steven's Academy in Hoboken, New Jersey. He dedicated himself to the study of theorems and the creation of precalculus mathematics exercises.
Finally, Aurelio Baldor, now retired, went with his wife, Moraima Aranalde and his children to Miami, where he died on April 2, 1978, due to pulmonary emphysema.
