Awards and Recognition
Award for best male performance on TV for the character of Mario in the telenovela The Hidden Face of the Moon.
Important was his role of the young Cuban aristocrat Antonio Fresneda in the famous telenovela Sol de Batey which premiered on the Island in 1985 and where he managed to become famous for his phrase "oh, Charito, oh!".
Thanks to this interpretation that launched him to stardom on the island, the artist became one of the most important faces of the small screen. However, it did not leave a good taste for either him or the public, which some attributed to his inexperience and others to problems in the artistic direction.
His performance in the telenovela The Hidden Face of the Moon is also remembered, in which he starred in one of its stories, giving life to Mario, a homosexual who lived alone, and who during the plot maintained a relationship with Yasser, a character played by Felito Lahera. To the latter he transmits the disease. For this role he received the acting award from that year's Television Festival. He has confessed that he had some fear before playing that character, as he had always embodied tough guys.
Tomey worked in numerous roles on television for adventure programs (The Iron Mask), novels (Passion and Prejudice, The Orange Tree in the Patio) and TV series (His Own War), and in theater (Andoba, Tartuffe). Within the seventh art he has participated in films such as Kangamba or When Truth Awakens.
After leaving Cuba definitively in 2013, he has only had small special appearances in Telemundo and Venevisión telenovelas, as he acknowledges that this "market" is not made for Cubans and that the Hispanic world generally does not know actors who come from the island.
Disappeared from the small screen for a long time now, he currently lives in the United States with his wife, Raisa Ramos, and his children. He traded the stages for work as an Uber driver.
At 65, this man from Camagüey left behind forever his long career in film, theater and television, to begin a new life and says he feels happy with his new life.
