Ariel Borrero Alfonso

Born at Central Washington, Manacas, Villa Clara. Son of Rogelio Borrero and María Teresa Alfonso.



He completed his primary studies at Frank País school and practiced baseball. In fifth grade he participates in the provincial Games, and at only eight years old he joins the 9 and 10 team of the Santo Domingo municipality, finishing third among batters.



In sixth grade he joins the municipal team again, obtaining good results and is called to the selection, subsequently due to his performance in the provincials he was selected for the pre-selection of the Villa Clara team, in that category finishing in second place among batters; not joining the Villa Clara team because the coaches said he did not have the required size, preventing him from entering the Provincial Sports School EIDE Héctor Ruíz.



His secondary studies, seventh and eighth grade, he completed at Provincial School 61 in Cayo Bejuco in Cascajal, municipality of Santo Domingo, also in that stage he participates in the National School Games, having outstanding results and ninth grade he completed in the Basic Secondary School in Manacas "2 Julio Pino Machado", that year he was again recruited for EIDE Héctor Ruíz, but did not enroll, then he starts at the Félix Álvarez Soto polytechnic located at Central Washington, in Manacas, graduating as a Mechanical Workshop Technician. Upon finishing he was called to Military Service, the three years of Military Service, he joins the Special National Brigade in Havana, playing as an amateur baseball player.



The Plaza coach called him to play in that municipality's provincials, but the unit did not accept the sports license. Upon finishing Active Military Service he starts working at the beer factory located in Manacas with the position of General Services gardener. After working for a year, he joins the factory team to play ball as an activity among active workers.



In 1994 due to the results obtained and being a rookie without attending sports school, he joins the Villa Clara team. Due to his results in the National Baseball Series, he joins several teams such as:



The L.G Cup in Panama, 1989.



Participation in various Inter-Tournaments in Holland.



He joins the Cuba team for the 2006 World Classic having good results, finishing as Cuba's third-best batter, and despite not starting as a regular he wins the position to help the team as 4th regular batter, with Cuba obtaining 2nd place after Japan.



He joins the elimination round for the pre-Olympic qualifying for the Olympiad.



He participates in the 2009 World Championship held in three countries, Italy, Spain and Holland, always having good results in the gold medal discussion game, tying the game with a home run, although he could not get first place, for him it was one of the most important moments in his life and sports career.



Currently he is part of the Villa Clara team and has 16 national series. He holds the batter record for the most hits in a national series for a Villa Clara player, as well as in triples, he tied the record set by Elpidio Mancebo of consecutive extra bases in a game. In 14 seasons he accumulates more than 1000 hits, 100 doubles and 100 home runs with more than 300 historic average.



On October 27, 2015 he reaches the figure of 2000 hits batted, which includes him in the select list of 19 Players with two thousand or more hits in National Baseball Series:



He resides in Santa Clara, and is currently studying a degree in Physical Education.
