Former Cuban baseball player nicknamed by Cuban fans as El Gigante del Escambray, who played first base for Cuba's national teams.

He was born in the town of Condado, Trinidad, in the province of Las Villas, currently Sancti Spíritus. From an early age he was drawn to practicing baseball.

He did not have the opportunity to participate in school and youth events, but by age 16 he was already playing with the senior team of Condado. He was also able to participate in the baseball academy in Santa Clara. This period helped him develop skills and become an athlete.

Antonio Muñoz came to stay at the pinnacle of Cuban baseball stars. He was present in Cuban triumphs at the World Championships in 1976, 1978, 1980, 1986 and at the Intercontinental Cups in 1979, 1983, 1985, 1987 and silver in 1981.

He also treasures 3 Gold medals in the Pan American Games, México '75, San Juan '79, Caracas '83, and in Central American Games he has victories from Medellín '78, Dominicana '86 and silver from La Habana '82.

The sturdy Cuban slugger forged a chain of successes that validate him as one of the most brilliant careers of a Cuban baseball player.

With 24 National Series, he was one of those who spent the most time at the top. The left-handed player from Sancti Spíritus, an outfielder first, an excellent first baseman in the finals, managed to leave a batting average of .302 for the records.

Leader of Cuban Baseball of all time in walks. He won eight home run titles and was the Most Valuable Player of the Amateur World Series on two occasions. He led the National Baseball Series for nine seasons and was the first player in the history of the National Series to reach 200 home runs and later, 300 home runs. He played four decades in Cuba between 1960-1990.

After retiring as a player, he became a coach for the Italian national team where he won the 2003 World Baseball Cup.

Later he has worked as a batting coach for the senior team in his province, but he also does not neglect the children.
