Ángel Augusto Pérez Herrero

Prominent personality of Cuban education and culture. Teacher and administrator of Cuban education for many years of exemplary work and fervent promoter of the historical, cultural and artistic values of the nation. Historian of the University of La Habana.

He pursued higher education at the Pedagogical Institute "Enrique José Varona".

Professional Career
He worked as a rural teacher in the municipality of Antilla, in the former province of Oriente. He began working as an Instructor within the Department of Spanish and Literature at the Pedagogical Institute "Enrique José Varona". He held the position of Director of Literature in the Commission of University Extension within which he developed, among other duties, that of editor of the March 13 Awards.

Director of the Introductory Course at the former Faculty of Humanities of the University. At the same time, he went on to teach the subject Social History of Literature and Art at the former School of History of the Faculty of Philosophy and History where he taught, in addition to the subjects that comprise the aforementioned discipline, postgraduate courses in the Master's program in Contemporary Studies in subjects such as Oratory and Foundations of International Public Law, in the latter case given his status as a lawyer. He was a tutor of diploma thesis in the Degree in History and Master's theses.

He also taught courses in two African countries: São Tomé and Príncipe and Cape Verde. He was invited to the colloquium organized between the University of La Habana and the University of Notre Dame in whose context he presented his work Cuba 1959-1998: Politics and Literature.

He was also invited to the University of Lleida, Catalonia, Spain, on the occasion of events organized in that city for the centenary of Ernest Hemingway.

In Mexico invited by the Extraordinary Chair José Martí of UNAM. He also taught at the Republic of Guatemala and attended the Book Fair of the Dominican Republic.

He participated as a speaker at national and international events, including the Meetings between Cuban and American Philosophers that have taken place at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of La Habana.

Publications
For years he was a panelist on the television program Escriba y Lea alongside doctors María Dolores Ortiz and Félix Julio Alfonso.

Among his publications in Cuba and abroad, the following stands out: Ramón López Velarde y Octavio Smith: Poetic Trajectories.

He wrote a prologue for the volume Writings of Childhood and Youth by Max Henríquez Ureña.

He wrote articles for periodic publications.

Within his activity in university extension is his weekly participation in the panel of the program Escriba y Lea on Cuban television.
