He studied in his native city, including his high school diploma at the Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza de La Habana.
At the University of that city he graduated as a Doctor of Civil Law (1949). He was a diamond cutter. As a representative of the interests of Cubana de Aviación, he lived for two years in the United States after the triumph of the Revolution.
He has also visited Canada, Mexico, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Peru, Brazil, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Spain, France, England, the GDR, Czechoslovakia, Portugal, Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the Soviet Union. As part of his work, he has participated with Cuban delegations in various international conferences.
His first published works were film reviews. He cultivates the science fiction genre and writes poems. He has collaborated in Carteles, La Quincena, Gente, Revolución, La Gaceta de Cuba, Unión, Literatura Extranjera (Moscow), Cahiers Renaud Barrault (Paris), Nueva Dimensión (Barcelona).
He has been anthologized numerous times, both in Cuba and abroad. He is currently director of international policy at the Instituto de Aeronáutica Civil.
Member of the Unión de Escritores y Artistas de Cuba (UNEAC).
He is considered the "dean" of Cuban science fiction writers. He has been a judge in various awards and competitions of the genre in Cuba and has published his short stories in Spain (Nueva Dimensión), Mexico (Antares), France (Cuadernos Renauld-Barrault), in various Argentine magazines from Córdoba and Buenos Aires, the defunct U.S.S.R., Czechoslovakia, the former GDR, and appears in The Best of Latin American Science Fiction, by Bernard Goorden and Van Vogt.
