Member of the Cuban roster for the Premier 12, 2019, which would provide a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics, Japan.

In an effort to strengthen their roster to reaffirm their status as champions in Japan, the SoftBank Halcones signed relief pitcher Andy Rodríguez to a five-year contract in late 2020.

At 22 years old, Rodríguez, from the Industriales team, is considered one of the best closers in the National Series and his results in 2019 were sufficient to represent the island in the second edition of the Premier 12 tournament.

Owner of a fastball ranging between 92-94 miles per hour, the right-handed pitcher agreed in 2020 with the Campeche Pirates, from the Mexican League, but the program was suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Originally from Havana, the pitcher has a slider and changeup in his repertoire, in addition to good command on his pitches, weapons with which he dominated in the 59 campaign, to the point of leading the saves category and competing for the Most Valuable Player award of the regular season.

Andy remained at the venue of the pre-Olympic tournament of the Americas held in Florida, United States, awaiting the agreed date for his transfer to Japan, but he did not show up at the airport, thus deciding to breach his contract with the Halcones de Softbank team, from the Japanese professional league, and remain in the United States.

His position made him a violator of the commitments made with Halcones de Softbank and the Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB), under whose authority his link with the Japanese team was officially formalized.
