Andrés Arturo García Menéndez

Andy García was born in Ciudad de la Habana, the son of a famous lawyer. In 1961, his family emigrated to settle in Miami, when Andy was only five years old.

He played on the basketball team at Miami Beach High School. During his final year in high school, he became seriously ill, which in some way led him to think about cinema as a career. He studied at the Universidad Internacional de Florida, and after graduating he moved to Los Angeles in search of an opportunity, where he held several temporary jobs, such as a waiter and bellhop at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

He began his artistic career with the successful television series "Hill Street Blues" (1985). After taking his first steps in the entertainment world, various roles emerged in several small films, where his Latino origin blends with his characters.

The first of this series of films in which he participated was titled "A night in heaven" (1983) and "Black Rain" (1989) by Ridley Scott.

He achieved true international recognition by participating in a film belonging to the successful saga of Francis Ford Coppola, "The Godfather".

We can say that Andy was one of the first Latinos to succeed in North America, if not the first, and during the 1980s he was the only representative of the Latin lover in the Hollywood film industry. Perhaps in the nineties his work intensity decreased with the appearance of new Latino talents such as the international Spanish actor Antonio Banderas.

In 1996 he filmed "Death in Granada", in Granada (Spain). A feature film in which he brought to life the Andalusian poet Federico García Lorca.

Andy García has always been proud of his Cuban heritage. He shows it in his first film as an actor and director titled The Lost City (2005) and which stars Dustin Hoffman and Bill Murray alongside him.

He married María Victoria with whom he has three children, Dominik, Daniella and Alessandra, although he is quite conservative regarding his private life. He is a fan of Cuban music. He has been married to her for many years. His fondness for Cuban music is well known and he has dabbled in this field by performing at concerts of some musician friends.

His physical attractiveness and his appearance as a handsome and dignified gentleman have facilitated his work on more than one occasion.

In 2008 he premiered The air I breathe, alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar, Brendan Fraser, Kevin Bacon and the young Spanish actor Daniel Delevin, whom he proclaims as one of the future Latino stars in the Hollywood firmament.

In 2009 he collaborated on two of the songs from the new album by Lucrecia Pérez Sáez, titled "Álbum de Cuba".
