Right-handed batter current infielder of the Chicago White Sox has titles such as world champion, Olympic champion, etc. He has achieved titles as Champion in Home Run in Cuban baseball. He is the second baseman in major league baseball and shortstop for the Chicago White Sox.

Ramírez batted .332 with 87 home runs and 391 RBIs in seven seasons with the Pinar del Río team in Cuban baseball. He averaged .335 with 68 RBIs and led the league with 20 home runs in the 2007 season.

In seven years in the Cuban National Series, Ramírez spent most of his time playing shortstop and outfield for Pinar del Río. He had a batting average of .335 in Cuba and led the League in 2007 with 20 home runs. Ramírez played center field for Cuba in the 2006 World Baseball Classic.

In September 2007, Ramírez left Cuba to apply for citizenship in the Dominican Republic and also to apply to major league baseball. He auditioned for many baseball teams before reaching an agreement on a four-year contract with the Chicago White Sox on December 21, 2007.

During Ramírez's first season in major league baseball, he excelled offensively both on the field, despite playing second base instead of his shortstop position. Ramírez finished in second place in voting for American League Rookie of the Year honors.

Alexei hit his first major league home run on May 16, 2008, in a game against the San Francisco Giants, facing Billy Sadler. He led major league baseball in grand slam home runs in 2008.

He hit his first career grand slam against the Texas Rangers on July 27, 2008.

On September 20, 2008, Ramírez hit his third grand slam of the season against Kansas City Royals pitcher Brian Bannister, tying the American League rookie record of Shane Spencer of the New York Yankees in 1998. It was the eleventh grand slam of the White Sox in the season, tying the club record in 2006.

On September 29, 2008, Ramírez hit his fourth grand slam of the season, setting a single-season rookie record. This also broke the team record for the most grand slams in a single season.

Ramírez can play various infield positions and in the outfield, but it is at shortstop where he feels most comfortable.

He batted .375 in the Dominican Republic World Baseball Classic, where Cuba finished in second place.

He just won the Silver Bat as the best offensive shortstop in the American League in 2010.
