Alejandro Pérez is a cinematographer, filmmaker, and cameraman for film, television, and video, and a Cuban photographer. His artistic productions have been very well received by specialized critics. Alejandro Pérez has more than 400 clips to his credit and is today known worldwide.
A tireless seeker of stories, with a curious camera and a special way of grasping details, Alejandro Pérez has become a necessary reference point within the history of Cuban audiovisual media. Always grateful to the Lucas Project, this artist constantly recalls his professional journey through the Film Studios of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, the time he worked at the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry.
He never thought of becoming a cameraman: he studied teaching and taught natural sciences classes for several years in an elementary school in East Havana.
Later, he took a cameraman course. Until then the world of audiovisual media was something unknown to him and caught his attention like any other person. He did not feel any special inclination, nor did he have any background in his family.
After completing the course, he was a war correspondent in Cuito Cuanavale and covered the massive invasion that Cuba carried out in the final moments. His memory of that time is not the best; in Angola, his friends and very young people died.
Upon returning to Cuba, he graduated in Cinematography from the Faculty of Audiovisual Communication Media of the Superior Institute of Art. He is a graduate of teaching and the Faculty of Audiovisual Communication Media of the Superior Institute of Art, specializing in Cinematography.
His professional work, which places him at the forefront in the field of contemporary photography for film and television, includes feature films, shorts and fiction series, documentaries, video clips, commercials and music videos as a photographer, etc.
Specialized in photography, he went through all aspects related to photography until reaching direction, but he still takes the camera in hand when necessary, as happened recently when filming the clip for "Súbeme la radio" by Enrique Iglesias.
He has given lectures and has accompanied the young generation of filmmakers who have started in Cuban audiovisual media thanks to digital technologies.
Member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and the Association of Cuban Photography Authors (ACF).

Awards and Recognition
He has received awards in prestigious national and international competitions and festivals. He has worked with important national and international artists. In recent editions of the Lucas Awards, he has achieved success in the roles of director and cinematographer and has gained international renown thanks to the success of the music video Dancing (with Spanish artist Enrique Iglesias). His professional trajectory was recognized at the gala of the Popularity Awards Between You and Me, held on April 18, 2015 at the Lázaro Peña theater in the Cuban capital.
"Dancing" was the first of a chain of international successes directed by Alejandro Pérez. When Enrique Iglesias saw the video that Alejandro had made for Descemer Bueno and Gente de Zona, he immediately called the Cuban director and asked him if he wanted to make a similar video with the same song.
"Dancing" opened the doors of the international market for Alejandro Pérez. The song was a total success, and today it is one of the most-watched videos in YouTube history.
Among Alejandro Pérez's most-viewed videos on YouTube are, of course, "Dancing" by Descemer Bueno, Gente de Zona and Enrique Iglesias, "La Gozadera" by Gente de Zona and Marc Anthony, "Heart Aches" by Enrique Iglesias and Wisin, and "Traitor" by Gente de Zona and Puerto Rican Marc Anthony.
Furthermore, Alejandro has worked in cinema with many recognized Cuban filmmakers. He was cinematographer for the film Viva Cuba, Esteban, and Boccaccerías Habaneras, among others.
Alejandro says that with fame he has been less happy, as he has had to work a lot, but what worries him most about his new condition is that the codes of his videos not repeat, that they all be different and leave an imprint on people.
Among the musicians of his generation, the one he would like to make a video for is Santana, and as for the music he likes most, it is jazz, although paradoxically he has directed very few videos in this genre.
"Now I am super happy, because I recently filmed a video with David Blanco for a very well-known song, 'I Am the Cuban Point', created by Celina González, from which David has achieved a very interesting version, due to the contemporaneity of the arrangements, which I am totally in love with. And it's curious to be able to take on this work because this is a song I always liked, and I didn't imagine, I don't know why, getting to work with it from an image perspective," says Alejandro Pérez.
