Abel Álvarez Hernández

Broadcaster, host and producer for Radio and Television. Award for Popularity of Cuban Television in 2005 and nominated in 2004, 2006 and 2007. Member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).

Abel was born in Nueva Paz, current province of Mayabeque.

Alvarez, began his career in 1993 at Radio Güines. Years later he moved to Havana and worked at various radio stations, including Radio Nacional in the program "De mañana". Later in 2005, he won the popularity award in a contest celebrating the 20 years of the radio station.

In 2000, he began working for Cuban television on the CHTV channel. There he was the host of the newscast "Resumen del Año" and won awards for the National Cuban TV Festival.

Later in 2002 he began with national television in various music and interview programs. Among them, "Mediodía en TV" which he hosted and produced. In this program he won the award for most popular host in the country in 2005.

In 2008, he was hired in Mexico to work in Campeche as a producer and host, two years later he moves to Monterrey, where he manages to host a project with UNESCO and Televisa. Subsequently he worked for Multimedios Televisión and Milenio Televisión, where in addition to hosting sports, he was part of the work team of the Vice President of the sports department and in charge of content coordination. In this same company he returned to radio.

In 2015 he joined the Estrella TV channel in Los Ángeles, California. He started as a reporter for the national newscast Estrella TV. Currently, he serves as host of the local newscast "Noticias 62".

Artistic Experience
Radio Work
1993- In March he begins as a reporter in the informational spaces of the Radio Güines station: "Portada de hoy" (informational magazine), "Servi-radio" (social facilitation), "De todo" (cultural), "De buena fuente" (newscast) and Bulletins. Later he joins the Radio Cadena Habana station, the main plant of stations in Havana province.

On December 31st he does voice-over for the first time at Radio Güines, hosting three programs, one aimed at workers, another special music program and the third dedicated to bolero, all live.

1994- He begins to collaborate at Radio Progreso station, National Network where he hosts with other colleagues the program "Radar" aimed at youth.
1995- In March he returns to Radio Güines station as a broadcaster and where he also expands his work spectrum. From this moment on he creates cultural, informational, musical programs, social facilitation, science and technology and acts in children's programs. In September he studies professional broadcasting at Radio Cadena Habana with professor Moreno de Ayala, while continuing to work for Radio Güines.
1998- He returns to Havana to work at Radio Ciudad de la Habana, provincial network. Here he hosts the informational magazine "Buenos Días", as well as dramatized programs, scientific-technical, interviews with personalities and participation programs.
2002- He begins his work on the program "De mañana" of Radio Taíno station, a tourism radio station in Cuba with national and international reach where he hosts one of the station's star slots, according to surveys the third most listened to. In this program he had the opportunity to interview important figures of culture on the island and internationally.
2003- 2008- He works on "De mañana" at Radio Taino which gave him the opportunity to cover the most important cultural events in the country.

Television Work
1999- He does his first work at CHTV (Voice-over work).
2000- At CHTV Channel of the City of Havana he appears for the first time as host of the year summary of the capital, which is broadcast on National TV.
2002- He begins the program "Bajo la piel del Universo" which later becomes "La piel del planeta" on the Educational Channel.
2003- He participates in the program "Cuerda Viva" of avant-garde music, replacing its host Roberto San Martín for a period of time.
2004- During the summer months he does simultaneous work on four programs of Cuban Television: "Cuerda Viva", "La piel del planeta", "Va por Casa" the latter presenting concerts at Casa de las Américas and "Verano en TV" which placed him among the three most popular hosts in Cuba that year. In September he is called to be the male host of the program "De la Gran Escena" until September 2005.
2005- He returns during the summer months to the program "Verano en TV". By decision of TV and due to the reception the team had with the public, they continued working on the project but with another name "Mediodía en TV" which in the month of November is chosen as the most popular program on Cuban TV as an advertising space and he becomes the most popular host on the island.
2006-2007- He continues working on the same programs and on "Visiones" on Cubavisión Internacional. He is again nominated as most popular host in 2007 on Cuban Television with the space "Mediodía en TV" of which he was the main host and general screenwriter.
2008- He continues working on the program "Mediodia en TV" until June of that same year when he moves to Mexico, invited to participate in events of the summer of the Television Station Telesur, located in the state of Campeche and later accepts a temporary contract from the same channel.

Film Work
He participated in the documentary Van Van empezó la fiesta by Liliana Mazure and Aaron Vega, produced by the ICAIC.
Whay?, documentary produced by Mundo Latino and directed by Rolando Almirante. Likewise in the film Viva Cuba, produced by Cuban Television and La colmenita and directed by Juan Carlos Cremata, the first Cuban film to win an award at Cannes.
He participates in the documentary by Arturo Sotto Bretton es un bebé, production TAL (Brazil)-ICAIC (Cuba), in 2008, for which he also created the promotional spot.
Production director of the documentaries Día de muertos (Telesur, Mexico, 2009),-Special Jury Award at the Veracruz World Film Festival- and Humberto (Mareafilmes, Cuba, Mexico, 2013), by Cuban filmmaker Carlos Barba Salva.
