Ángel José Cowley Arbirdes

Appointed in 1820 as chief physician of the Hospital de San Juan de Dios, member of the Real Sociedad Patriótica de La Habana and, from 1833, secretary of the Junta Superior de Sanidad. A great promoter of vaccination in Cuba, he taught until his death in 1859 and devoted many hours to the study of botany and chemistry.
