"I left Cuba because I fell in love and I left Venezuela because I got scared," said popular Cuban actress Beatriz Valdés in an interview with EVTV Miami.

The actress from La Bella del Alhambra, a musical film that captivated all of Cuba, also expressed about Venezuela, a country that welcomed her after leaving Cuba and where she lived intensely: "That Venezuela I had, I lost it."

In fact, Beatriz Valdés always says that she is Cuban by birth and Venezuelan by choice. In another interview with CNN, the artist acknowledged that she never cried for Havana, but Venezuela won't give her enough life to do so.

Now the actress is residing in Miami, where she has reunited with her family and many friends.

"Now I try to remedy that absence and move forward in a territory that allows me to reconnect with my family. They have been a raft to survive on," she told EVTV Miami.

At this moment, Valdés is participating in the musical Visa para un sueño, by Raúl González, which speaks, among other things, about how difficult it is to emigrate.

According to Beatriz, "emigrating is hard, it's uphill, it's risky, fear takes over."

For those people who decide to embark on the path of emigration, the actress advises them to focus on economic planning, to maintain confidence, patience, the importance of forming groups, building community, connecting with their surroundings.

As for future plans, Beatriz Valdés is preparing a solo show called Espacios, and is trying to return to producing and directing. She also teaches at a university in Miami, where she teaches acting training classes.

What is the key to success?, they ask the Cuban actress.

"I believe it has to do with the fact that in life you have to fall in order to be able to get up. The exercise of having to pick ourselves up makes us strive," she said.
