Cuban actress Beatriz Valdés, one of the most popular faces in the history of Cuban cinema, celebrated her birthday on May 12th, reaching the age of 57.
The artist, who has been based in Venezuela since the 1990s, arrives at this age with a successful and recognized professional career both on the Island and in her adopted country.
Beatriz became famous in Cuba after starring in the 1980s in the unforgettable role of Rachel in the film "La bella del Alhambra". From there she became almost immediately an icon of island beauty and sensuality.
Following her successful performance in that film, which earned her a Goya Award and other important accolades, Beatriz participated in several films and telenovelas that kept her in the preference of the Cuban public for several years. It remains in the history of the Havana New Latin American Cinema Festival that on the Island and after this memorable performance, Beatriz did not receive, in the year of the film's release, the Coral Prize for Best Actress.
Beatriz also made some films such as "Los pájaros tirándole a la escopeta", "Como la vida misma", "Hoy como ayer" or "Perfecto amor equivocado", a comedy in which she was seen after several years away from the Cuban big screen. And it was in the 1990s that the actress emigrated to Venezuela, a country that opened its doors to new artistic projects for her.
In Venezuela, Beatriz also managed to work in films, theater and telenovelas, and it has even allowed her to forge a path behind the camera, working occasionally as a director.
For some years now Beatriz has worked and lived in the United States and from time to time returns to her island because she is sought after by film directors and her admirers.
