The National Ballet of Cuba (BNC) announced this Friday that it will dedicate a gala performance on December 16th to one of the most emblematic dancers in its history, maestro Aurora Bosch, on the occasion of her 80th birthday.

The special performance by the company directed by Viegnsay Valdés will take place at the Martí Theater, and its program will include selections from some works in the artist's repertoire, such as Giselle, Grand pas de quatre and Swan Lake, according to a report from the Prensa Latina (PL) news agency.

Together with Loipa Araújo, Josefina Méndez and Mirta Plá, Bosch was part of the famous group known as the "four jewels of Cuban ballet."

The dancer was born in Havana on December 10, 1942 and studied at the Alicia Alonso Ballet Academy under the direction of another legend of Cuban dance, Fernando Alonso, and other distinguished professors, the media recalls.

In 1956 she began her professional career, which made her deserving of the National Prize for Dance in Cuba, and other recognitions such as the Félix Varela Order and the Alejo Carpentier Medal.

Aurora Bosch holds important international awards such as Gold and Silver Medals at the International Ballet Competition in Varna, Bulgaria; and the Anna Pávlova Prize from the University of Dance in Paris, France.

Also the Special Prize of Dance Critics in France; the Gold Medal of the National Institute of Fine Arts of Mexico; as well as the International Prize for Art Golden Sagittarius, in Italy.

In addition to her successful stage career, she has accumulated a long and recognized teaching legacy. In 1962 she was Founding Professor of the National School of Art, where she worked in the Ballet specialty for several years.

Since 1987 she has been Associate Full Professor at the Superior Institute of Art of Cuba (ISA), an institution that granted her the Doctorate in Art Sciences in 2000.

From these positions she has contributed to the training of young generations of Cuban dancers. In addition to being a maître of the BNC, she has served in that capacity as a guest of important companies from various countries such as Spain, Mexico, Denmark and the United States, among others.
