Cuban singer Aymée Nuviola is happier than usual since she received the news that her album A Journey Through Cuban Music was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Tropical Album 2020 category.

"I want to thank God for the immense privilege of this nomination. I am extremely excited and happy. Above all, for knowing that I am the only Cuban woman nominated in that category this year," the singer expressed to el Nuevo Herald from Cancún, where she is fulfilling professional commitments.

For her part, another artist born in Cuba, Camila Cabello, received a nomination in the Best Pop Duo category, for the song Señorita, alongside Shawn Mendes.

Nuviola added that the recognition drives her to continue doing her work with the excellence that has characterized her throughout her career. She also confessed to feeling "blessed" for having top-tier competitors in this edition.

"I still can't believe that I'm on the same nomination list alongside Juan Luis Guerra, Luis Enrique, Vicente García, and Marc Anthony. It's a blessing!"

A Journey Through Cuban Music, recorded between Miami and Havana, features the collaboration of singer Omara Portuondo, Septeto Santiaguero, and pianists Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Chucho Valdés, among others.

The production was carried out by Roniel Alfonso Mella, Gregory Elias, Gianko Gómez, Juan Mario Aracil, and Aymée herself.

"You never know how far you can go with a piece of work. But while we were making it, we were aware that we had very well-made material in which we had the opportunity to bring together great figures of Cuban music, something that is not always achieved," said the performer, after acknowledging that her album was born "under a very good star" since it also obtained a Latin Grammy nomination as Best Traditional Album.

The selection includes boleros, guarachas, danzones, and congas. Among the most well-known songs stand out Lágrimas negras, Tres palabras, and ¿Dónde estabas anoche?

"The nomination demonstrates once again the impact of our music in the English-speaking world. We must not forget that Cuba is among the top music exporters in the world alongside the United States and Brazil. In fact, it is said that it has exported more than thirty genres," she noted.
