After ten years of residence in Colombia, she currently divides her life between projects in both countries.
MADRID, Spain.- Cuban actress Jacqueline Arenal, recognized for her versatility and interpretive depth, has built a solid career spanning more than three decades in theater, film and television. Especially remembered for her iconic role as Verena Contreras in the successful telenovela Tierra Brava, Arenal has maintained a trajectory of constant evolution, adapting to new formats and settings.
After living a decade in Colombia, where she consolidated her international career, she currently divides her time between Cuba and that country, alternating projects in both territories.
In 2024, Arenal played Leonor Moscote in the highly anticipated adaptation of One Hundred Years of Solitude for Netflix, based on Gabriel García Márquez's famous work. The actress has described her participation in this production as an "immense privilege". The series was presented in Bogotá, and Arenal attended the event accompanied by her daughter, also actress Camila Bordón, the result of her relationship with actor Mijail Mulkay.
Simultaneously, Arenal participated in the series Medusa, also available on Netflix, consolidating her presence on streaming platforms and reaffirming her ability to take on challenges in various genres and formats.
In the theatrical realm, Arenal's most recent return to Cuban stages was this year, with the premiere of 53 Sundays, by Spanish filmmaker and playwright Cesc Gay, at the Hubert de Blanck Theater, sharing the stage with Andrea Doimeadiós, Caleb Casas and Eduardo Martínez. Additionally, she leads alongside her sister the theater group Okantomí, focused on children's audiences.
In film, she has announced her participation in the Cuban film You Can't Die, directed by Carlos Barba and co-starring Taimí Alvarinño and Isabel Santos, marking her return to the national big screen.
On a personal level, Jacqueline Arenal has expressed in interviews her desire to reconnect with her roots and her audience in Cuba, after her prolonged stay in Colombia. She is currently married to Alfredo Naranjo, a pediatric surgeon whom she met in her youth and whom she reunited with during the pandemic.
