Cuban writer Alexis Díaz-Pimienta celebrates the warm reception of his most recent literary works: Sangre and Jano, following their presentation during the 41st edition of the Almería Book Fair in Spain.
From his profile on the social network Facebook, the also improvisation poet announced the book signing event and offered details about the novels, whose plots offer an approach to the conflicts of sexual orientation, gender and machismo, present in society.
Under the Scripta Manent Ediciones imprint, Díaz-Pimienta's seventh novel: Jano, situates its narrative in the cities of Havana, Cádiz and Barcelona, while returning to the 1990s to portray Havana youth homophobia and its consequences.
According to the synopsis of the 416-page volume, it is based on the text-collage or text-puzzle technique to tell the plot, through short chapters, snapshots or narrative photos and thus offer brushstrokes of the characters' psychology.
Sangre, meanwhile, presents 'an intense and vibrant reflection on this millennial pandemic of machista violence that seems to recycle and multiply in unspeakable ways with each change in society', the author relates.
Díaz-Pimienta shared, from the same social network, the impressions of editor Marisa Carbajo, who described Sangre as an agile and easy-to-read book, whose 'intrigue pushes you to keep moving forward to find out how the heck the plot is going to wrap up'.
The specialist from the Bohodón Ediciones imprint highlighted the 'curious mixture of genres, because what begins as a noir novel and, in principle, realistic execution, becomes something completely different and very original'.
You've achieved a short novel that deals with absolutely current, complex and painful matters, with precise and quick brushstrokes. If I have to highlight something, I'll stick with your prose. Brilliant, closer to spoken language than written; with your winks and those metalinguistic references so much to your taste, Carbajo stated.
The Cuban writer, improvisation poet, narrator and singer possesses about thirty literary works, which have made him deserving of more than 20 national and international awards in poetry, novel and short story, among other genres.
