After being acquitted during a trial in which he faced rape charges, Cuban footballer Marcel Hernández had his passport returned to him and will be able to travel to his country of origin to fulfill his greatest wish: reuniting with his family after several years without seeing them. According to information provided by the Cartaginés club management, his arrival date will be in 2022.

In this regard, the Cartaginés manager confirmed to the Costa Rican newspaper La Nación that "Marcel Hernández made a request to be absent from training and games so he could have the option to see his family again and also renew his passport in his country (Cuba)."

"In reality, it's not a matter of how much time we authorized or not, but rather the process he has to complete there has a certain duration and we must adapt to that timeline, which will be approximately 10 days," stated the executive.

Marcel Hernández himself had previously indicated that football was taking a back seat, as his priority was to reunite with family members he hadn't seen in five, six, and even nine years, and for this reason, he hoped that the team and the fans would understand that this time was urgent for him.

After being acquitted by Costa Rican justice, Marcel Hernández recovered his passport, which had been taken from him in 2018 due to the accusations against him for the alleged crimes of rape of a minor. However, this Tuesday he will return to the Greater Antilles.
