American Grandmaster of Cuban origin Leinier Domínguez ranked fifteenth in the first 2022 rating list, according to the official website of the International Chess Federation.
At 38 years old, Domínguez displays 2752 rating points and appears just eight points behind Russian Alexander Grischuk, who closes the coveted Top Ten.
The so-called Idol of Güines has not stopped appearing among the 15 chess players with the highest ELO rating on the planet since June 2019, and from July 2008 to date has never been below the 2700-point barrier.
Throughout this year, his most relevant achievement was his triumph in the very strong Champions Showdown, a tournament in Chess 960 or Random Chess format. Additionally, he finished fourth in the United States National Championship, in which he competed undefeated with a record of one victory and ten draws.
In the newly announced ranking there are only two players above 2800, Norwegian world champion Magnus Carlsen (2865) and French prodigy Alireza Firouzja (2804).
After them are positioned Chinese Ding Liren (2799), Italian-American Fabiano Caruana (2792) and Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi (2773).
