Goodbye to Martha Velasco, forever Teté

In the afternoon of last February 26th, renowned Cuban actress and radio host Martha Velasco passed away in Havana at the age of 95.

The actress graduated in scenic acting and recitation from the School of Fine Arts of the Centro Gallego de La Habana, which allowed her to begin her career in the world of art.

Her distinctive voice allowed her to work at different radio stations in the country, standing out at the Radio Progreso station as the protagonist of radio novels, stories, serials and theatrical productions.

She also appeared in dramatized programming on the old CMQ television and in commercials for different brands of the time.

But undoubtedly, the character of Teté in the humorous program "Alegrías de Sobremesa," on Radio Progreso, won her the affection and admiration of the public for several years, as well as her ability to interpret accents from diverse regions of the world.

For her meritorious career, Martha held the Alejo Carpentier Medal, the Distinction for National Culture, the National Radio Prize, Artist of Merit of Radio and Television, and the ACTUAR Prize for Lifetime Achievement.
