Works by choreographers from the United Kingdom, Spain, and Cuba will be part of the Summer season of the Acosta Danza company, from August 17 to 19, in Havana.
The Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso will lend its García Lorca hall to the ensemble founded and directed by the prestigious dancer Carlos Acosta.
According to a statement from the company, the new program will include the works End of Time, by English choreographer Ben Stevenson; and Impronta, by Spanish choreographer María Rovira.
By decision of Acosta Danza, the piece De punta a cabo will be revived, a version of the original by Alexis Fernández (Maca) but, on this occasion, it will feature video images created by Cuban artist X Alfonso.
The audience attending these performances will be able to enjoy the world premiere of Satori, a choreography by young dancer Raúl Reinoso, who was inspired by notions of Zen Buddhism to create a spectacle about the search for spiritual enlightenment.
Satori features an original score composed by Cuban musician José Gavilondo, costumes and scenery by Curaçaoan designer Angelo Alberto, and lighting by Italian artist Fabiana Piccioli.
Acosta Danza aims to offer inclusive spectacles combining contemporary and neoclassical styles, without disregarding other expressions, periods, and styles of dance art.
The company intends to create productions in full accordance with the most current notions being developed in the world, not only in matters of body movement but in everything related to the stage.
The ensemble defines itself as a space for renewal, research, and experimentation for creators from any part of the world, choreographers, musicians, designers, visual artists, and audiovisual artists.
