Yordan Manduley had another excellent season with the Quebec Capitales in the Can-Am League, finishing as the leader in batting during the qualifying stage.
The shortstop from Holguín was first in average in the tournament, compiling 337 (303-102) to surpass Mikey Reynolds who did it for 335. He also batted 14 doubles, one triple and four home runs with 37 RBIs, and was a key piece in a team that finished in second place with 58-44, five and a half games behind Sussex County Miners.
Lázaro Blanco, his teammate, has not shown the same numbers as the previous season, when he was selected as the tournament's best right-handed pitcher. He finished the qualifying stage with a record of 5-3, with an ERA of 3.36 with 81 strikeouts in 88.1 innings of work. He has not won many games, but he is the third most hardworking pitcher on the team behind Karl Gelinas (99.2) and Jay Jhonson (89).
Now the Quebec Capitales begin the semifinal playoff against the Rockland Boulders (third with 54-48). In the other matchup, Sussex County Miners and Trois Rivieres Aigles will face off. The Cubans must take a leading role in the postseason.
