The regular third baseman for the Chicago White Sox, Cuban Yoan Moncada, has had a great start to the 2023 MLB season.
After playing very well with the Cuban team in the V World Classic, he joined his MLB team and has continued playing impeccably.
The other day, his White Sox team defeated the San Francisco Giants 7-3 and Moncada drove in a run. In fact, he ignited the offense in the seventh inning, when the Chicago White Sox scored a three-run rally. In that game, the Cuban was lined up as fourth hitter and leadoff man for manager Pedro Grifol's team.
With the bases loaded and one out on the board, the leadoff man connected for his hand an 85 mph curveball thrown by reliever Hjelle. The ball came off the bat toward right field, extending his team's lead to 5-1.
This was his fifth run batted in of the newly started 2023 MLB campaign and the 304th of his lifetime. In addition, he reached 11 hits in the season and 624 in his career.
Moncada finished 4-2 with one RBI and one strikeout, with which he improved his batting average to .440. This astronomical average places him in third place in the American League and seventh overall in Major League Baseball.
In the young circuit, the Toronto Blue Jays leadoff man, Matt Chapman, leads with .522 (23-12), followed by Boston Red Sox center fielder, Adam Duvall, with .500 (20-10). Moncada is the leader of his league among switch hitters, even among lefties.
