Cuban singer Xiomara Laugart, based in New York, will dedicate a concert to the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre on September 2nd in Santiago de Cuba.
With this concert, the singer will join the celebrations for September 8th, the feast day of the patroness of Cubans.
The singer emigrated more than 20 years ago to the United States where she developed an important career with the group Yerba Buena alongside Descemer Bueno, among other musicians, and obtained a Grammy Award nomination. With Yerba Buena she recorded the albums Island Life and President Alien.
In New York at the beginning of this century she played the character of Celia Cruz in a musical work dedicated to the famous Cuban salsa singer and has continued to build a career for which she is recognized worldwide as one of the great Cuban performers.
Her version of Hoy mi Habana, by José Antonio Quesada, is one of the most beautiful songs dedicated to the Cuban capital and remains one of the main songs in her repertoire.
Born in 1960 in Guantánamo, Xiomara Laugart began to gain recognition in the Caribbean nation in the late 1970s, when she began to perform songs by musicians such as Pablo Milanés, Donato Poveda, and Alberto Tosca, who recently passed away.
Her son Axel Tosca, born from her relationship with Alberto Tosca, has also developed a successful career in the world of jazz in New York.
A Mami came through the hand of bolero singer Meme Solís and has reached a large number of followers, among them those who already attended her concerts in Cuba.
The singer has traveled to Cuba on several occasions in recent years and collaborated with several of her colleagues in La Mayor de las Antillas.
The artist, after the tribute to the Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre, hopes to perform on the stages of La Habana.
One of her latest performances in the Cuban capital was last January at the Festival Internacional Jazz Plaza.
