Cuban singer Wow Popy is set to release Mundial on Wednesday, October 21, a 16-song album meant to carry reparto to new audiences. The record was produced by DJ Cham for Rami Records, with backing from Plus Media and EMM, according to Asere Noticias and Periódico Cubano.
The lead track, "Durazell," pairs him with Puerto Rican stars Farruko, Tito El Bambino and Ñengo Flow, with a music video due alongside the album. The guest list also includes Wisin, Lenny Tavárez, Lennox, Brytiago, Ken-Y, Rafa Pabón, Maffio, Fronti, Gente de Zona and the late El Taiger. The preview single "Hasta atrás," with Lenny Tavárez, was already out before the release.
Wow Popy talked about the project on Tuesday, October 20, during "Reparto: Cuba's Modern-Day Soundscape," the first panel devoted to the genre at Billboard Latin Music Week, held at the Faena Forum in Miami Beach alongside Bebeshito, DJ Conds, Helabusador and Rey Tony. Billboard reported that he also named Nelly and J Balvin among the collaborators and said the album took far longer than usual: "I spent more than a year making the album. We usually make an album in three days, but this was a completely different way of working."
The panel opened with a tribute to Elvis Manuel and El Taiger, regarded as pioneers of the movement. A launch event for Mundial is scheduled for the night of October 21 at Furia Disco in Miami as one of the week's official Billboard showcases.
